Yesterday night, Samsung presented its long time awaited Galaxy S III at an event in London and I had the pleasure to attend the launch. As expected, the S III comes with state-of-the-art hardware specs. Powered by Samsung's own Exynos quad-core CPU, the Galaxy S III runs on Android 4.0.4/Ice Cream Sandwich and supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as quadband UMTS/HSPA+/HSUPA at 850/900/1900/2100 MHz; and later this summer, Samsung will also release a LTE version. Furthermore, the Galaxy S III has WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/GLONASS and NFC on board. The device will be available in two colors: white and blue. Interesting enough, a black version isn't planned.

The S III comes with a massive 4.8" 720p HD Super AMOLED touchscreen and the BSI-enhanced 8 megapixel autofocus main camera features a supportive flash LED and is said to have zero shutter lag. Same for the 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera which even allows to record HD videos up to 30 fps. Generally, videos are said to be recorded in full 1080p HD and the device is also able to playback full HD videos. Content can be stored on either 16 GB or 32 GB (a 64 GB version is available soon) and the inbuilt memory can be expanded with microSD memory cards up 64 GB.

At a size of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, the Galaxy S III weights 133g, including the 2,100 mAh Li-Polymer battery.

Together with the Galaxy S III, Samsung has also announced a wide range of accessories which are hopefully available right at the launch. The accessories list includes flip, slim and protective covers, a battery charger stand and a desktop dock, AllShare Cast which is a kind of wireless HDMI adapter like HTC's Media Link HD, and a HDTV HDMI adapter.

Cheers ~ Arne
