Announced back in October by HTC as the first CDMA Windows Phone 7 smartphone, the HTC 7 Pro will be available as a GSM/UMTS version too. The HTC 7 Pro will be the first European Windows Phone 7 keyboard-slider and as all Windows Phone 7 smartphones, also the 7 Pro will be powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU. According to HTC and the GCF, the 7 Pro is expected to support quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA (7.2 Mbps)/HSUPA (2 Mbps) at 900/2100 MHz. Furthermore, the 7 Pro is said to feature WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, aGPS as well as the Windows Phone 7 typical FM radio, digital compass, G-, proximity- and ambient-light sensors.

The HTC 7 Pro features a 3.6" WVGA touchscreen and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with a supporting LED flash and the ability to record 720p HD videos. The memory is said to be 576 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM with an internal (non removable) storage of 8 GB. At a size of 59 x 117.5 x 15.5 mm, the HTC 7 Pro weights 185 g, including the 1500 mAh battery. The device's sliding and tilting full QWERTY 5-row keyboard makes text input very convenient, even if Windows Phone 7 is yet not fully optimized for landscape keyboard devices; for instance neither the Start screen nor the program menu or most Microsoft applications support landscape.
The devices fake speaker left and right from the keyboard and screen are not used but HTC is still using a loudspeaker on the back of the device; next to the camera.
The 7 Pro features a material mix of high-quality plastic, chromed frames and a stainless steel battery cover and with the 7 Pro, HTC is again introducing a tilt-screen which again tilts like no other smartphone before.

With an expected January launch at O2 Germany, it is expected that the HTC 7 Pro will be released anytime early 2011 in both versions - the European GSM/UMTS version as well as the North American CDMA version.

Cheers ~ Arne
