Just announced, the new HTC One (M8) follows HTC's tradition of the unibody design; which features even more metal then before. With a metal share of over 90 %, the unibody metal housing goes up to the screen on the front. The European and North American HTC One is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU which works at 2.3 GHz. It's running Android 4.4.2/KitKat and HTC has introduced with the M8 a new Sense version which is called HTC Sense 6. The European One supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, quadband UMTS/HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps and quadband LTE at 800/900/1800/2600 MHz of up to 150 Mps. Also onboard are Bluetooth 4.0 LE and WiFi a/b/g/n/ac at 2.4 and 5 GHz.
Other sensors include the Android typical gyro sensor, accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and a barometer as well as a so called "Sensor Hub" and NFC. The One M8 features a 5.0" Full HD 1080p IPS touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and three cameras. The primary camera is the well known 4 megapixel HTC UltraPixel camera which now lacks OIS but still features a BSI sensor, has a pixel size of 2.0 um, a 1/3" sensor size and a ƒ/2.0, 28 mm lens. The second camera on the back is the so called Ufocus camera which captures depth information. Both cameras are supported by the so called Smart Flash 2.0 which are two LED flashes, one with cold and one with warm light. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixel and a ƒ/2.0, wide angle lens with BSI sensor and HDR capabilities which even allows to record 1080p Full HD videos.
The One (M8) has 2 GB of RAM and either 16 GB or 32 GB of flash memory which can be expanded with microSD memory cards up to 128 GB
All this measures 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm and weights 160 g, including the 2600 mAh Li-polymer battery which features QuickCharge 2 and allows to recharged the battery up to 80 % - in only one hour.
Together with the new HTC One, HTC has also introduced the so called "Dot View Case". An innovative separately sold case which provides a colorful, fun and useful dot-matrix view on the HTC One (M8) screen, right through the cover. It protects the device but allows to still see calls, text messages or the weather information without even opening the cover. Instead, it is a delightful, intuitive extension of the phone and even allows to respond to calls, alarms & calendar and see notifications without opening the case. It's a kind of stylish, 8 bit retro-look design while providing full front and back device protection. Since the information is provided by the screen, no additional power source or battery needed.
The new HTC One (M8) will be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as other European countries, from April 4th. Straight for the launch, HTC will offer it in three colors: Gunmetal Gray (as pictures above), Glacial Silver and Amber Gold.
Cheers ~ Arne
