Following the earlier announcement of its cooperation, the HTC Sensation XL is HTC's second Android smartphone which features Dr. Dre's Beats Audio technology. Running on Android 2.3.5/Gingerbread, the Sensation XL is powered by a Qualcomm single core Snapdragon CPU at 1.5 GHz. It supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA (14.4 Mbps)/HSUPA (5.76 Mbps) at 850/900/2100 MHz and comes with Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n with tethering capabilities and DLNA support, aGPS, and an FM radio. Furthermore it features the Android typical ambient light-, proximity- and G-sensors as well as a digital compass.
The large 4.7" IPS-powered Super-LCD capacitive touchscreen supports WVGA and the 8 megapixel autofocus main camera with its F2.2 lens comes with a supporting dual flash LED and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures) allows to record 720p HD videos. A second 1.3 megapixel camera is located on the front and can be used for video telephony. While the Sensation XL comes with 768 MB of RAM and and a massive 16 GB of flash memory (user available storage around 12.64 GB), the storage capacity isn't user expandable because the Sensation XL lacks support for micro SD memory cards. The device comes with four backlight illuminated touch sensitive navigation keys and weights, at size of 132.5 x 70.7 x 9.9 mm, 162.5 g - including the 1600 mAh removable Lithium-ion battery.
On the top, next to the power button, is the 3.5 mm stereo headset jack located. On the right side of the device sports the volume rocker, which can be also used to zoom in/out while in camera mode. Interesting enough, the on the left side located micro USB port isn't supporting MHL HDMI-out which means that the Sensation XL can't connect to compatible TVs..
Being a Beats Audio Android device, the HTC Sensation comes with customized Beats by Dr. Dre iBeats in-ear stereo headset. It features a built-in microphone for hands-free calls and online chats. Beats' ControlTalk allows on-cable playback control of the HTC Sensation XL, including play/pause and previous/next track.
The HTC Sensation XL is now available in selected markets in Europe, Middle East and Asia and Asia Pacific. However, only in EMEA, HTC is also be offering a limited edition bundle that includes special edition Beats Solo headphones. Without a contract, the HTC Sensation XL is available for around 549 Euro.
