Announced back in March, right after the Mobile World Congress, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is Samsung's third Android tablet PC. Powered by a dual-core CPU at 1 GHz, the Tab 8.9 is running Google's tablet-optimized Android 3.1/Honeycomb OS with Samsung's TouchWiz UI enhancement. It will be available with WiFi only or with WWAN which supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz, WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 as well as the Google typical G-, proximity-, light-sensors, aGPS and a digital compass. The capacitive TFT touchscreen measure 8.9" and features WXGA (1280 x 800 pixel).

The main camera on the back, which allows to record 720p HD videos, is good for 3 megapixel and comes with a LED photo flash; the front facing camera supports 2 megapixel. The Tab 8.9 comes with either 16 GB or 32 BG of inbuilt memory which can't be expanded due the lack of microSD card support. Also the 6000 mAh battery can't be removed or replaced.

At a size of 230.9 x 157.8 x 8.6 mm, the Tab 8.9 is one of the thinnest Android tablets today and weights 470 gram.

Since the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is a Honeycomb tablet, it doesn't come with any hardware navigation keys but keys like Home and Back are part of the operating system and always visible in the lower left corner. Also, like most other Android tablets, the Tab 8.9 comes with a USB compatible but propriety connector which is used to charge and synchronize the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, which will be available in black and white, is not yet released but a launch across Europe is expected for anytime mid of August.
