Hot
on the heels of this week's
Samsung Omnia II announcement, we've just received a
couple of exclusive screenshots of Samsung's brand new Omnia II "TouchWiz 2.0"
user interface which Samsung just introduced with the new Samsung Jet and
Omnia-family
of touchscreen smartphones. Since the Samsung Jet and Omnia family run on different
operating systems (the Samsung Jet runs on Samsung's propriety OS while the Omnia's run on Windows Mobile), the UIs are not 100 % the same but nevertheless,
both platforms feature a 3D Cube as the main starting point with an underlying
custom GUI and menu structure.
In terms of the Samsung Omnia II, the GUI is designed to replace the original
Microsoft Windows Mobile UI as good as possible, quite similar to HTC's TouchFLO
3D, and providing quick access to the device's main features. This includes the
lock screen with a customizable background as well as information about missed
events but also a new task switcher with application thumbnails (similar to
Windows 7). Furthermore, and this is quite similar to HTC's TouchFLO 3D, the
Cube screen includes shortcuts to the most important applications.
