The
upcoming and recently announced Sony Ericsson
Xperia X2 Windows Mobile
6.5 Windows phone stands in the good tradition of Sony Ericsson's yet young
Xperia-line of
smartphones. Like the Xperia
X1, the X2 features an arc sliding keyboard with a slightly modified
button-design to make typing an even better experience. And while the X2 still
features an optical joystick, Sony Ericsson left the hardware D-pad (as
available with the X1) this time. Also modified are the main keys bellow the
screen. Since the X2 is now featuring a flat WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen, the
physical soft-keys were left and therefore the device is only featuring the call
buttons, a Xperia and an OK key.
On the side, the device features the mobile phone typical volume-rocker as well
as the camera shutter, which also launches the 8.1 megapixel autofocus camera.
This is yet the best camera, available with a Windows Mobile. The 3.5 mm jack on
the top is used for standard stereo headsets as well as for handsfree headsets
but also for TV-out. This leaves the micro USB port available for
synchronization and charging.
The overall quality is Sony Ericsson typical rocking solid and the handset
design was slightly modernized and improved. The back is now a little bit more
sinuous and therefore it feels much better in the palm of a hand than the X1
did.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 will be available in two colors: Elegant Black and
Modern Silver and is expected to be released in selected markets in Q4 2009.
