in February,
Toshiba announced its next attempt to jump the Windows Mobile bandwagon when
the company unveiled the
TG01 Windows Phone. Running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the TG01
might be one of the - if not the - thinnest Windows Phones on the market today,
measuring 129 x 70 x 9.9 mm only, at a weight of 129 g. Furthermore it's the yet
most powerful Windows Mobile Professional smartphone by sporting a 1 GHz
Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon CPU. Connectivity-wise it's pretty focused on
Europe, by featuring quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE but only singleband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA
at 2100 MHz. Furthermore the device features Bluetooth 2.0+ERD, WiFi b/g and an
inbuilt aGPS receiver.
As mentioned, the Toshiba TG01 might be one of the flattest Windows Mobile
phones on the market but the 4.1" WVGA screen gives it quite huge footprint; as
a matter of fact it reminds more on a web pad than on a so called "Pocket PC"
but for sure the screen benefits from the size.
The TG01 will be available in two colors: black and white and the white one
shines somewhat nacre.
Quite interesting is the implementation of the call Send/End buttons since they
are virtual only. On the front, the TG01 features tow keys only: the Home and
Back button while the call Send and End keys are left and right from the
soft-keys which stays permanently. Other than that, the TG01 also sports a
traditional volume rocker, a power switch and a dedicated camera key. Like other
recent Windows Mobile smartphones, there's no D-Pad.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
As
announced back in March,
O2 Germany will
carry the TG01 exclusively (in Germany). Still no other release date given than
summer. However, while O2 Germany was the first carrier which announced a
Toshiba partnership, other carriers are expected to announce the device soon as
well.
