RELEASE: Galp Energia and TMN launch Portugal's first Windows Powered Smartphone

Galp Energia, Portugal's leading oil and gas company and TMN, Portugal's largest mobile operator, today announced plans to launch a series of innovative mobile services for their customers based on the Microsoft's Windows Powered Smartphone platform.

These new mobile services will be offered to Galp customers on an AEG branded Windows Powered Smartphone with TMN. AEG is working with Dangaard Telecom to bring the Smartphone to market.

The mobile phone will run Microsoft's Windows Powered Smartphone software, and Fastaccess' mobility services platform.

Fastaccess, a joint venture of Galp Energia and Brisa (one of the largest private motorway operators in Europe and the leader in the Portuguese market), is the leading Portuguese driver-related and Telematics mobility services provider. Using the tremendous multimedia capabilities and ease of integration within Microsoft's applications, Fastaccess was able to include direct access to cutting edge services including integration with loyalty program points Microsoft Exchange Server (enabling access to email), roadmap routing, traffic advisories with live traffic images, points of interest database, cell id, Integration with Location Based Services.

Portugal's largest mobile operator, TMN, will distribute the Smartphone nationally through its retailers, and by Galp Energia, Portugual's leading oil and gas company's 24 million convenience stores, petrol stations and retailers this summer.

GALP's selection of the Smartphone platform will help deliver a range of services to its customers through an innovative mobile portal. On top of the device's and TMN's applications, key services will include:

  • GALP related services, such as loyalty program information and account services, location-based content and services.
  • FastAccess powered services, such as driver assistance location-based information (maps, routing, traffic info, POI data base) and auto-related content.

This project demonstrates Galp Energia's commitment to innovation, one of the main pillars of the company. Besides innovation, Galp Energia see this project delivering a new and efficient way of accessing mobile services currently available through portal as well as a way of providing exclusive advantages to their customers. Above all, this project is an opportunity to create value through the increase in customer loyalty, new income sources and cost reduction of the loyalty program. It will also add value to the portal owned in equal parts by GALP Energia and Brisa.
