The bad news reached us yesterday night via Twitter, HTC America has currently no plans to launch its upcoming flagship Windows Mobile Professional smartphone, the HTC Touch HD, in North America. The HTC spokesperson said "sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to the states, it would be old news". Nevertheless, it was also mentioned that HTC has "other cool stuff coming", while it's not yet clear if this means new, yet unknown, Windows Mobile smartphones or devices like the T-Mobile G1 Android smartphone which is manufactured by HTC.

But as a matter of fact, the HTC Touch HD won't be an option for North Americans. While it features quadband GSM, it only sports dualband UMTS and HSDPA without support for the North American 850, 1700 and 1900 MHz UMTS networks.

Cheers ~ Arne
