RELEASE: Samsung announces European Market availability of the Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the European wide market availability of the Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia. According to the European Mobile Life Survey, revealed today by Samsung, approximately 70 % of phones used for business do not have full multimedia capabilities, with 40 % of European business users owning two or more mobile phones. Nearly two thirds (58 %) of Europeans consider multimedia functions to be absolutely critical features in their mobile phones, with 1 in 5 business users wishing their business phone had a camera, an MP3 player and a radio for personal use.

These high expectations for functionality include a huge demand for quality cameras (35 %), quick, easy to use Internet and E-Mail connection (32 %), and generous memory space for games, pictures and videos (23 %). Equally, out of respondents who don't use their phone for professional purposes, around a third (32 %) wished that they could have easy access to E-Mail and to the Internet with their current phone.

So reliant are Europeans on their mobile phones that almost half (48 %) never go anywhere without their mobile phone. Two thirds of Europeans (58 %) rely on their mobile phone to organize their life, using it as their primary calculator, alarm clock and calendar.

Business users are no less reliant on their mobiles, and in fact use their mobile to keep within easy contact of their work colleagues. A third of employed respondents claimed to have taken a work call out of hours and 1 in 7 claimed to have sent an E-Mail or talked to a colleague whilst in the bath, in bed or on the toilet (on the toilet???).

Very few Europeans (7 %) choose to ignore calls from their boss and are in fact, far more are likely to ignore calls from their friends and family, with 16 % claiming to have done so. Italians were by far the worst offenders with 25 % claiming to have used caller ID to avoid talking to their loved ones.

Mobile phones are now so integrated into Europeans lives they are far more common than other everyday gadgets, gizmos and tools. Nearly all (98 %) of the survey respondents owned their own mobile phone, far more than those respondents who owned an MP3 player (55 %), a paper diary (44 %) or a digital camera (79 %).

Samsung's i900 Omnia is designed to provide business users with stylish multimedia capabilities and personal mobile users with simple access to business based functions.

As an all in one mobile phone, the Samsung Omnia, which is based on the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, gives users a mobile extension to their PC experience with access to MS Office documents such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Users can also send and receive E-Mail and manage their appointments in Outlook while on the go.
