While we are talking about the Windows Media Center I was scrawling the web again and found this remote control solution for Pocket PCs from Niveus.

Pocket PC Niveus Pocket Control for Windows Media Center 2004

Niveus Pocket Control is the one-of-a-kind, wireless (80211.b) remote control for Windows Media Center 2004. Exclusively available with your purchase of the Niveus AVX Media Center PC, this next generation remote control software gives you full control of your music and radio from anywhere in your home.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Wireless 80211.b Remote Control
  • Control the Niveus AVX Media Center PC from any room of the house
  • Two Control Modes: Direct & Remote
    • Direct View - Use the virtual MCE remote screen for complete control of the Niveus AVX when your media center display is within sight.
    • Remote View - Download your digital music library and playlist information to take control of your music and radio from anywhere in your home.

System Requirements:

  • Pocket PC 2002 model or later
  • Integrated Pocket PC Wireless or CF/MMC card
  • Niveus AVX Media Center PC (includes Niveus Pocket Control Server-Side Software)
  • Wireless Home Network (Infrastructure Mode) or Wireless USB Adapter for Niveus AVX (Ad-hoc Mode)

That's something interesting (but unfortunately available for Niveus' Media Centers only and I've never heard of them before nor I think they are available in Europe) and reminds me a little bit on Pocketwerks's Vinyl which was designed from the ground up to take advantage of your digital music collection. With Vinyl you can remotely navigate and control the playback of your digital media collection from your Pocket PC via a beautiful user interface that features album cover art throughout."

That's something useful for us Pocket PC users so I wonder if there is a similar solution available from others but supporting the Media Center Edition in general and not just a OEM center.

Cheers ~ Arne

The AVX Media Center I think was just recently announced at WinHEC and is North America only... sad

There is however an alternative to controlling your XPMCE with your Pocket PC called Rudeo MCE Control (for XP Media Center) via WiFi or bluetooth, you can check it out here(there is a 30 day trial before buying)

If you wish to purchase an actual XPMCE remote control complete with green button and remote control accessories, NewEgg(it is where I purchased the majority of my parts for the system)has them for $29.95:
