While
not too much is known about Microsoft's Pink project and Windows Mobile 7, it's
clear that Microsoft's real next Windows Mobile release will change everything
we know from Windows Mobile today. If you compare the 2000 Pocket PC platform
with the 2009 Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, some things have changed but a lot is
still the same. Now ZDNet.com's Mary Jo Foley received some - as she writes -
information from a "trustworthy source who requests anonymity" which includes
hardware specifications of either Microsoft's Pink project or Windows Mobile 7.
However, since Microsoft confirmed that it's not building its own phone, I would
say that the specs bellow - if real - are the Windows 7 specs for Chassis 1
devices:
- Core Requirements
- Processor: ARM v6+, L2 Cache, VFP, Open GL ES 2.0 graphics HW
(Qualcomm 8k, Nvidia AP15/16 and TI 3430 all meet spec)
- Memory: 256 MB+ DRAM, 1 GB+ Flash (at least 512 MB fast flash – 5
MB/s unbuffered read at 4 K block size)
- Display: WVGA (800×480) or FWVGA (854×480) 3.5" or greater diagonal
- Touch: Multi-touch required
- Battery: Sufficient to meet Days of Use LTK requirements
- Controls: Start, Back, Send and End are required (Soft keys are
allowed as long as they are always present)
- Peripherals
- Camera: 3 megapixel+, flash optional, 2nd camera optional (VGA
resolution sufficient)
- GPS: aGPS required
- Sensors: Light Sensor, Compass (3 axis, 5 degrees, 100 Hz sample
rate), Accelerometer (3 axis, 2mg resolution, 100 Hz sample rate)
required
- USB: High speed required, 20 MB/s transfer rate
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth 2.1 required, must run Microsoft Bluetooth
stack, CSR BlueCore6 or later recommended
- WiFi: IEEE 802.11B/G required, must run Microsoft's native WiFi
stack, Atheros 6002 or Broadcomm 4325 recommended
- Connectors: Micro USB and 3.5mm Audio required
- Options
- FM Tuner: If tuner hardware is present it will be detected and
supported by the Media application.
- SD Card (Micro SD recommended)
- DPAD, QWERTY and/or 12/20 key keyboards all optional
- Haptics
That's some impressive hardware specs for a mobile device/smartphone if they
turn out to be true. At the moment, I would take every Pink and/orWindows Mobile
7 information with some serious grain of salt.
Cheers ~ Arne
