RUMOR: HTC Hero to get an Android 2.1 Upgrade?

While Google's Android 2.0 is still pretty new and so far only one handset is running it (in the US it's the Motorola Droid/in Europe it's the Motorola Milestone), it's widely known/expected that Google is working on the follower already - most probably called Android 2.1 (code-named Flan). And while HTC confirmed that it will release an Android 2.0/Eclair upgrade for the HTC Hero, HTC might even skip Android 2.0 in favor of Android 2.1. Over the weekend, a couple of screenshots appeared, which seems to show a Hero Android 2.1 ROM with HTC Sense integration:

Since Android 2.1 wasn't officially announced, it's somewhat unclear what it will feature but sources said it will mostly contain bugfixes for for Android 2.0.
Also, I've heard from HTC that the Android 2.x upgrade for the HTC Hero won't be available this year anymore but it will take until early next year to be released as a free update for Hero customers.

Cheers ~ Arne
