SERVICE: Google launches Boarding Pass Card for Google Now

Yesterday evening, Google announced via its Android Twitter channel a new service which it launch recently for Google Now: the Boarding Pass card. If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I'm currently flying quite frequently (most likely that's where the Lufthansa Frequent Traveler status comes from ;-) and nothing is more annoying than either checking-in on the airport or printing boarding passes at home/in the office but instead I'm always checking-in from my mobile phone and getting the boarding pass send to it. At the moment, I'm using PassWallet (see my review here) which allows to use Apple Passbook files on Android phones but it requires to download these Apple Passbook files.

Google is now trying to go even further by automating this. Since it expects that it receives the boarding pass (for sure only if you use Gmail and only if Gmail cards are enabled in Google_Now), the Google Now boarding pass card extricate the info and presents it with the bar code, the terminal, gate info and seat number.

While the service seems to be somehow launched, Google says in its video, that this service is currently working with selected airlines only. The video is from January 7th and since that, I already flew a couple of times but it never worked for me/appeared in Google now. Therefore I would expect that Lufthansa is currently not part of the selected airlines but most likely Google is trialing it with U.S. airlines only. The video is at least showing a United Airlines flight.

As always, Google Now still requires at least Android 4.1/Jelly Bean.

Cheers ~ Arne
