While this topic isn't too new anymore (this functionality was uncovered before already), Internet Connection Sharing over WiFi gets a GUI. No more manually Registry hacks, etc but with WMWifiRouter you can your Windows Mobile 6 (possibly 5.0) smartphone as a WiFi <-> GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA router. It'll allow you to use WiFi capable devices to connect to the internet through your phone's data connection (similar to Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 inbuilt Internet Sharing functionality which however works via USB or Bluetooth PAN only).

The best reason to use WMWifiRouter instead of Bluetooth PAN is the fact that WiFi (even if it is WiFi b only) provides speeds up to 11 Mbit while Bluetooth 2.0+EDR is limited to 2 Mbit which isn't sufficient for 3.6 or 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connections.

While WMWifiRouter isn't out of Beta yet and still under development, you can download it for free now to use it with your WiFi equipped Windows Mobile smartphone to bridge an Internet connection from it to your PC (or any other WiFi enabled gadget). The developers are not in a final stage yet, so exact usage might change. Also there is no user guide available yet but the most up to date documentation is in TalynOne's "Internet Sharing over Wifi" topic over at XDA-Developers, which also serves as the official WMWifiRouter topic. The first posts in that topic will tell you how to use it (as well as how you can do the whole thing manually).

If you are using your Windows Mobile as your high-speed modem for your Notebook, this tool is definitely worth to try.

Cheers ~ Arne
