 Following
earlier user reports that the IMAP issue with Windows Mobile and
Google's Gmail
seems to be solved, Google has now confirmed it has fixed a problem that was
causing Windows Mobile phone users to receive blank Gmail messages.
In October
last year, Google began supporting IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) for
Gmail. That means messages that mobile users send or receive from their phones
are synched with their Gmail accounts, appearing the next time users access
their accounts from the web or any other IMAP E-Mail client. But shortly after the announcement, Windows
Mobile users began complaining in online forums about problems.
In some cases, Windows Mobile users said that HTML E-Mail messages showed up
blank on their phones. Others said that while they could read message headers,
all messages appeared blank.
Google acknowledged the problem and listed it on its known issues page.
A Google spokeswoman said that it was fixed on Friday and now the known
issues page no longer includes the problem. If you want to use Gmail's IMAP with
your Windows Mobile 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6 smartphone, you don't have to do
anything else rather configuring your smartphone following the instructions,
available from Google.
UPDATE: Google just posted an official statement in its Gmail Blog. According to Google, the Gmail team worked with Microsoft engineers to debug the incompatibilities with Windows Mobile and made some tweaks to the code.
