As Pebble announced today, the smartwatch pioneer will be ready to launch its Prebble appstore in early 2014 for all Pebble users around the world. As Pebble said, the appstore will integrate seamlessly into the Pebble smartphone app for Android and iOS and providing a one-stop shop for Pebble customers to search, browse and install a wide array of awesome Pebble apps. The Pebble appstore will feature 7 categories for Daily, Remotes, Games, Notifications, Tools & Utilities, Sports and Fitness apps - and of course - Watchfaces. In each category, Pebble said it will also feature a selection of the best apps as well as new apps to the category. If a Pebble app requires a companion Android or iOS app, links to Google Play or the Apple appstore will be included as well, to help users find the appropriate app.

Furthermore, native Android and iOS apps that leverages the Pebble Sports API and does not require a specific Pebble app to be installed on Pebble will be also available from the Pebble appstore which again link back to the native appstore. For the launch, Pebble isn't supporting paid applications but we might see some Android or iOS companion apps which are then charged in the Apple appstore or Google Play.

Following its recent launch of the Pebble SDK 2.0, which came with four new APIs (JavaScript, Accelerometer, Data Logging and Persistent Storage), Pebble said the response has been phenomenal and many amazing Pebble apps like PebbleCards, PebbleCam, Smartwatch+ and Glance have already been updated to SDK 2.0. Developers will be able to submitting their SDK 2.0 Pebble apps to the Pebble appstore starting today 10 AM PT but the appstore will only support SDK 2.0 apps.

Cheers ~ Arne
