THOUGHT: Is there still room for Faxing in an email driven society?

In the last few weeks I've seen several software developers update their Fax Software to add Windows Mobile 2003 support. It also made me realize that these two developers have been in the Pocket PC scene from the launch of the first Pocket PCs. That means they have been continually supporting the Pocket PC platform for 3 Pocket PC generations now.

This also brings to mind the several discussion threads I have gotten myself involved in with regards to the importance of Fax messaging in a predominantly email centric society. How many times do you send someone a fax as compared to sending them an email or several emails at that?

Well, sometimes there are just tehnologies that remain, and they remain for a long time eventhough some other new technology threatens its very existence. In those threads, some people claimed that email is the way to go and fax is on its way out. So why look for a fax software for your Pocket PC? It does email already right? I feel that having both will still be better and I guess it just reflects the same frame of mind I have as with SMS, EMS, and MMS. These are technologies that support different needs for different people. Why reject the idea of using a fax if only in the end it will actually do me more good and give me multiple ways of sending a message across or for that matter, even receiving messages from other people.

I live in a country that uses both technologies. For as long as people still use paper and love hoding on to hard copies, I think there is still room for fax culture in an email dominated society. It is not bad to hold on to two different technologies for as long as they complement eachother. Email is not everything, well, at least not yet.

For as long as companies, offices, and residences still have fax numbers, it is proof that the fax culture is still alive. And for as long as the fax culture is alive, I look forward to developers like KSE and BVRP maintain their dedication to support Windows Mobile devices and offer its users mobile faxing capabilities.

Mabuhay! ~ Carlo
