 Following
our
earlier posting from last week about HP's new line of Windows Mobile
devices, we've just received some more (yet to be confirmed) information about
HP's iPAQ 600 and iPAQ 900 line of devices and if the specs turn out to be true,
HP is definitely back into the market. I'm not sure if the new HP devices are
(still) manufactured by HTC but if not, HTC might face some serious competition,
if HP takes its new Windows Mobile approach serious as well. Let us start with
the iPAQ 600 series which was rumored to feature Windows Mobile 6 Professional,
3G connectivity and integrated GPS.
According to the (completely unconfirmed) information we've received, the
first HP iPAQ 600 series devices will be indeed a bar type smartphone with a 12
keys numeric keypad sporting Windows Mobile 6 Professional and featuring an
iPod'esk touch sensitive navigation wheel! Furthermore it should have quadband
GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA (up to 3.06 Mbps), WiFi b/g,
Bluetooth 2.0 as well as Assisted GPS (AGPS). The new iPAQ 600 is expected to be
powered by a Marvell PXA270 (Bulverde) CPU at 520MHz and featuring 128 MB RAM
and 256 MB ROM which can be expanded by microSD cards.
The 2.8" QVGA touch screen should support the Windows Mobile typical 65K
color and on the back, the devices features 3 megapixel CMOS camera with auto
focus.

Furthermore it seems that HP is working on an HP iPAQ 900-series and
according to our information, the feature-set is quite identical to the iPAQ 600
features above but instead of sporting a numeric keypad, the iPAQ 900 will
features a QWERTY keyboard.
Further information aren't given yet but an announcement is planned for
September with availability later this year. Anyway, the features above are not
yet confirmed and can very well change. Nevertheless, if this is "the new HP",
it's quite promising!
