Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 isn't only coming for Intel based x86 PCs, Notebooks and Tablets, but also as Windows RT which is designed for ARM based devices like consumer tablets. And right ahead of its press conference at this week's Computex in Taiwan, Asus has unveiled the first ever Windows RT tablet called the Asus Tablet 600. Running Windows RT for ARM, the Tablet 600 is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 3 quadcore CPU which is backed-up by 2 GB of RAM. The tablet sports a 10.1" 1366 x 768 IPS+ touchscreen and features WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a digital compass and NFC as well as a rear-facing 8 megapixel autofocus camera and a front facing 2 megapixel camera.

While Asus hasn't given any further information yet, Nvidia has uploaded a quite promising looking YouTube video which demonstrates the Asus Tablet 600 a little bit and shows the beauty of Microsoft's Metro UI on a SysOnChip device.

At the end, it's expected that Windows RT will be a mix of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 and sources told us, that Windows RT won't be able to run full Windows 8 apps but will use instead Windows Phone 8 apps. If true, Windows RT is the kind of Windows Phone 8 Tablet the Windows Phone ecosystem lacked so for.

Pricing and availability aren't confirmed, but it can be expected that the Asus Tablet 600 will arrive anytime 2nd half 2012, maybe right after the official availability of Windows 8 but for sure right in time for Christmas.

Cheers ~ Arne
