Unlike previous Android smartphones from HTC, the latest devices like the HTC Legend or HTC Desire can receive firmware updates over the air (OTA) and HTC has just released a firmware update for the HTC Legend to fix a naughty bug. For so far unknown reasons, the HTC Legend doesn't showed all available applications in the Android Market and as it turned out now - the HTC Legend has hidden apps which required access to the devices 5 megapixel camera. As a matter of fact, the device kept users away from downloading apps like Google Goggles or Qik. With today's firmware release of version 1.31.405.4, HTC said that this bug should be fixed.

The update is around 9 MB and HTC recommends WiFi access, the HTC Legend requires a charged battery to perform the ROM update.

The firmware update is available now and should notifies HTC Legend users automatically. It's also possible for search for the update manually by opening Settings -> About phone -> System software updates -> Check now.

Hopefully this update will also give access to other missing applications (like Waze) which don't need access to the device camera but which are also not available from the Android Market.

UPDATE: All missing apps - incl. Google Goggles, Qik and even Waze - are now available in the Android Market and Google Earth - which isn't working on the HTC Legend finally disappeared.

Cheers ~ Arne
