While Sling Media's SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile was the company's first mobile SlingPlayer client for its famous Slingboxes, it came into its years since the initial SlingPlayer Mobile 1.0 for Windows Mobile was pretty stylus-centric and Sling Media already showed-off - how a nice looking finger-friendly GUI could look when the company released its Apple iPhone/iPod Touch SlingPlayer Mobile. Now, after months of work, Sling Media released its SlingPlayer Mobile 2.0 for Windows Mobile 6.x touchscreen-based Professional smartphones which features a similar, finger friendly GUI by not cutting-off any of the Windows Mobile features including native streaming over 3G wireless networks.

Unlike the SlingPlayer Mobile 1.x, SlingPlayer Mobile 2.0 requires a free Sling.com account where are used Slingboxes have to be registered. After this one time registration and login on the mobile client, SlingPlayer Mobile is using the Sling.com account for connecting it to the registered Slingboxes. Therefore it's not necessary anymore to configure the SlingPlayer Mobile client but everything is in sync with Sling.com and the desktop SlingPlayer.
While Sling Media tried to support as many as possible Windows Mobile devices with the SlingPlayer Mobile 2.0 launch, only Windows Mobile 6 and higher touchscreen smartphones are supported at this time and only certain Windows Mobile smartphones are supported yet. Nevertheless, other smartphones, like the HTC HD2 work as well.

Owners of a valid SlingPlayer Mobile 1.x license can upgrade to the new 2.0 player by simply downloading the new player from Sling Media's U.S. website (it's not yet available in other regions of the world) by continuing using the 1.6 license key. Furthermore, Sling Media still offers a free trial version which is also available from Sling Media's download page. The full version is available for US$ 29.99 from either Sling Media or Microsoft's Windows Mobile Marketplace.

Cheers ~ Arne
