UPGRADE: Samsung releases Android 1.6 / Donut for Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500

No question, sometimes it takes a little bit longer and sometime it seems to take forever! Back in April, we've reported that Samsung will indeed release an Android 1.6/Donut upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500 and today, O2 Germany confirmed via Twitter that the Android 1.6 upgrade is finally available! Sure, Donut is neither Android 2.1/Eclair nor Android 2.2/Foyo but Android 1.6/Donut is a major improvement for Galaxy users since it comes with a couple of improvements (like the updated Android Market, the Quick Search Box for Android, an updated camera and camcorder user interface, a new battery usage indicator and Google's text-to-speech engine).

Furthermore and even more important, Android 1.6 allows to run applications which require at least Donut, like a couple of Google applications like Maps or Google Goggles as well as other applications.

According to O2 Germany, the Android 1.6 upgrade is now available through Samsung's New PC Studio software.

Cheers ~ Arne
