The HTC 7 Pro is one of the few and HTC's first Windows Phone 7 device which will come with a slide-out hardware keyboard. It will be available in a North American CDMA as well as European GSM/UMTS version. Like all the currently available Windows Phone 7 smartphones, the 7 Pro will be powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU and the GSM version will support quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA (7.2 Mbps)/HSUPA (2 Mbps) at 900/2100 MHz. Furthermore, the 7 Pro will feature WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, aGPS and an FM radio. The device features a 3.6" WVGA touchscreen and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with a supporting LED flash and the ability to record 720p HD videos.

The memory is said to be 576 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM with an internal (non removable) storage of 8 GB. At a size of 59 x 117.5 x 15.5 mm the 7 Pro is quite thick and with a weight of 185 g, including the 1500 mAh battery, the device is one of the heavier Windows Phone 7 devices. The 7 Pro features a material mix of high-quality plastic, chromed frames and a stainless steel battery cover.

The device's semi-automatic sliding full QWERTY 5-row keyboard with the tilting touchscreen makes text input very convenient, even if Windows Phone 7 is yet not fully optimized for landscape keyboard devices; for instance neither the Start screen nor the program menu or most Microsoft's own Windows Phone 7 applications support landscape today. However, most of the available 3rd party applications already support landscape orientation as well as important built-in applications like E-Mail or messaging.

The HTC 7 Pro is expected to be launched in January by O2 Germany. Other release dates are yet unknown but it's expected that the HTC 7 Pro will be released anytime early 2011 in the U.S. with Sprint.

Cheers ~ Arne
