I really like good and useful accessories and I like to listen to music on my smartphones. Being it while commuting or travelling, using headsets, or in the office where I prefer to listen via the device's loudspeakers. However, most smartphones have the loudspeakers for hands-free phone calls and audio playback on the backside. That's pretty annoying since you either have the phone in your hand, where the loudspeaker is then covered by your palm, or you put in on your table, with the display up where the device covers the loudspeaker then. And yesterday's launched Huawei Ascend P1 isn't anything different but also has the loudspeaker on the backside.
However, Huawei was so kind to give away a funn(k)y accessory to the participants of yesterday's press event in Munich, the so called "Loudspeaker for Huawei Ascend P1". It simply redirects the sound from the back to the front of the device and, as a nice side effect, it's acting as a stand which can be used either portrait or landscape, making it also useful for watching videos!
This gramophone looking accessory is made of some kind of gum, fits nicely around the bottom of the device, covers the loudspeaker on the back and transports the sound to the front tube. It even has a hole for the microphone which allows to use it for hands-free voice and video telephony. Kind of clever and useful, as long as the loudspeakers are not back to the front, as the very first PDAs had it.
The packaging said "Gift Only" and therefore I have no idea if this "loudspeaker adapter" will ever make it to the market or if it is just a marketing gag. But hopefully it's coming to the market or even better, will become a standard package content of the Ascend P1.
Cheers ~ Arne
