During
another off-site meeting in Barcelona, I had some more time to play with the
recently announced Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta web browser. Even if not yet
available commercially but only available for ODM and carrier partners and still
in Beta, Opera Software made a fantastic job already to bring the real Internet
to mobile devices, without any proxy servers in between but by rendering the web
sites on the device. With Opera Mobile 9.5, Windows Mobile smartphones will
finally get a web browser which is - at least - on the same level as Apple's
iPhone browser or Nokia's S60 web browser; and no wonder that so many carriers
and ODMs will include Opera Mobile 9.5 into its future device offer (as HTC will
do with the Advantage 16 GB as well as T-Mobile will do with the Ameo 16 GB):
As you can see on the video above, Flash video isn't working yet because it
requires
Adobe's Flash Lite 3 which needs to be licensed separately. But Opera
Software confirmed, that - if Flash Lite 3 is included - Opera Mobile 9.5 will
be able to play Flash videos, as the one above or available at YouTube and other
video portals.
Opera Mobile 9.5 should be commercially available later this Spring but it
will be released inbuilt with new Windows Mobile 6 smartphones before already.
The consumer version is expected to cost something around US$ 24.95 and as
always, Opera Software plans a free trial version too.
