The Samsung Galaxy S III/GT-I9300 is Samsung's eagerly awaited Android flagship smartphone which will launch next week. Running on Android 4.0.4/Ice Cream Sandwich, which Samsung enhanced with its own TouchWiz 4.0 UI, the Galaxy S III is one of the new smartphone which is powered by a quad-core CPU. However, for sure is Samsung using its own Exynos 4212 Cortex A9 CPU at 1.4 GHz and a Mali-400MP GPU, making it the first Exynos smartphone. The S III supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, quadband UMTS/HSDPA (up to 21 Mbps)/HSUPA (up to 5.76 Mpbs) at 850/900/1900/2100 MHz as well as WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, aGPS/GLONASS and the typical FM radio.

The Galaxy S III sports a 4.8" Gorilla Glass 2 Super AMOLED HD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixel. The 8 megapixel autofocus camera on the back comes with a supporting flash LED and features simultaneous HD video and image recording, burst shot with best photo, HDR, geo-tagging, touch-focus, face- and smile detection and image stabilization. Videos can be recoded in 1080p HD with up to 30 fps. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 1.9 megapixel which allows to record 720p HD videos up to 30 fps.

The S III comes with 1 GB RAM and either 16 or 32 as well as later with 64 GB of flash memory which can be even expanded with micro SD memory cards up to 64 GB. In addition to the inbuilt memory, Samsung provides 50 GB of free Dropbox storage for two years. Furthermore, the device is accepting the pretty much now common micro SIM card.

Unlike the majority of new Android 4.0 devices, the Galaxy S III is featuring the rather old Android button layout with a physical home button touch-sensitive menu and the back keys.

The Galaxy S III will be available in "pebble blue" and "marble white" and will launch on 29 May 2012. The LTE enabled version will be launched later this summer.

DISCLAIMER: The device above is pre-release hardware which came without any accessories. The firmware is close to the final release hardware.

Cheers ~ Arne
