The
new Samsung Omnia II follows Samsung's latest touchscreen smartphone
design-language and it looks quite similar to the Samsung Jet or even the
Samsung Galaxy. All
three devices feature a black glossy housing while the first two, the Omnia II
and the Jet, don't sport a D-Pad anymore. The center button or cube is an action button only, it's
even not an optical D-Pad as known from the first Omnia. Left and right to the
action button are the call buttons and that's it with the main buttons on the
front. On the left side, you will find the mobile phone typical volume rocker
(which again acts as the zoom rocker for the camera) and on the right side the
Omnia II sports the camera shutter, a kind of back and ok key and the display
lock/unlock key.
The 3.7" AMOLED touchscreen features WVGA. The 5.0 megapixel main camera on
the back features video recordings at 30 fps up to 720x480 pixel an has a
supporting dual power LED while the front facing camera is used for video
telephony only. At a size of 118 x 60 x
11.9 mm, the Omnia II weights 130 gram (including the battery and SIM Card).
The Omnia II comes with either 2, 8 or 16 GB of inbuilt memory which can be
expanded by microSD cards, which is now hot swappable again. Last but not least,
like the Jet or the Galaxy, the Omnia II has all connectors on the top which
includes a 3.5 mm stereo jack as well as a micro USB port, protected by the
Samsung typical flap.
