Today, Sling Media released its long awaited SlingPlayer Mobile for Android which is now available from the Android Market for US$ 30. However, unfortunately there's no try before buy version offered and therefore this videoview should verify if it's worth the money. If you are already using a Slingbox, we don't have to tell you what place-shift can do for you. If you are new to the Slingbox, we recommend to read one of the::unwired's Slingbox reviews first. So the SlingPlayer Mobile for Android allows users to finally enjoy home TV or video on their Android smartphones as well and Sling Media has released a completely overhauled and simplified user interface for the Android version.
The SlingPlayer Mobile for Android connects to any supported Slingbox (officially supported are the Slingbox SOLO, PRO-HD and PRO even if the Slingbox Calssic works under certain circumstances) and extends the living room TV experience to any supported Android phone. The SlingPlayer Mobile works with either 3G, 4G or WiFi connections and features a finger friendly touchscreen interface which allows a user to flip through local channels with the virtual remote control as well as pause, fast-forward, rewind, and even schedule DVR recordings
Based on our testing, Sling Media's new SlingPlayer Mobile for Android works as expected and no wonder, Sling Media already has some good experience in developing mobile clients of its SlingPlayer. Therefore, it's worth every Cent.
Cheers ~ Arne
