The
Toshiba TG01 is a typical Microsoft Windows Mobile Professional smartphone which
means it comes with all the typical Professional applications including Office
Mobile, Outlook Mobile, Windows Live Mobile and Windows Media Player Mobile in
addition to features like Internet Connection Sharing and other Windows Mobile
apps. While it's yet running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional only, Toshiba
will offer a Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade later. Nevertheless, to make the user
experience even better, Toshiba also added its own bits to the TG01 with the
most obvious - the changed Today screen Toshiba calls "TG01 3D Menu".
In addition to the changed Today screen, Toshiba also added two programs
which should replace its original Windows Mobile counter-parts: CoreCodec's
CorePlayer Mobile and Acess' NetFront Browser. CorePlayer Mobile is definitely
one of the feature-richest media player on the market and it's definitely a
great Windows Media Player Mobile replacement, especially because the TG01's
version also includes a YouTube module which offers direct and embedded access
to YouTube.
Somewhat unusual is the use of Access' NetFront Browser instead of Opera Mobile.
The reason might be a partnership between Toshiba and Access since both are
Japanese companies and worked together for i-mode mobile phones.
Other than that, the TG01 is pretty much Windows Mobile standard while one
utility should be highlighted which is called "Flexipad". Since the TG01 doesn't
features a D-Pad, Toshiba added a virtual D-Pad application called Flexipad.
Being semi-transparent, it stays in front of any application and emulates a
D-Pad. Furthermore it can be changed to a touchpad which emulates a mouse then.
