Earlier
this month,
Sony Ericsson announced the
Xperia X2, Sony
Ericsson's latest Windows Mobile smartphone and first Windows phone, featuring
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional. Like the
Xperia X1, the Xperia X2
also includes the unique Arc-Slider keyboard but the new SlideView feature,
which basically replaces the X1's Xpanels, should give the X2 Sony Ericsson's
very own user experience in addition to Windows Mobile 6.5. The X2 features
quadband GSM/GPRSEDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR,
WiFi and aGPS. Like the first Experia, the X2 is designed by Sony Ericsson but
unlike the X1 - which was manufactured by HTC - the X2 is now
manufactured by Mobinnova.
The unit we were able to unbox here isn't a sales unit at all but it's a so
called "acceptance unit" which represents a device which carriers get it for
testing and certification. Nevertheless, it's pretty much the stuff Sony
Ericsson will ship into markets later this year.
Sony Ericsson's Xperia X2 will be available in selected markets from early Q4
2009 and will be released in two different colors: Elegant Black (as seen in the
videoview) and Modern Silver.
