"Killer App" for Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition devices allows users to dial by Voice.
Fonix Corporation, a leading provider of speech interface solutions, announced yesterday the release of Fonix VoiceDial, a totally interactive, hands-free speech software application for the Microsoft Pocket PC Phone
Edition that enables users to place calls simply by speaking the phone number or contact name.
"With no voice training required, users can tell their Pocket PC Phone Edition device to call a certain number or individual on the user’s contact list, and Fonix VoiceDial will do the rest," said Tim Hong, Wireless and
Mobile Product Manager at Fonix. "This hands-free phone dialing solution is speaker independent, so people can use it in their cars, at home, in the office, or anytime they want to make a phone call. "
"I have several applications on my Pocket PC Phone Edition, but the one I use most often in the course of a
day is VoiceDial from Fonix," said James Schmitz, an independent beta tester for VoiceDial. "I have over 200
contacts in my address book. Everyday I am amazed at how accurately VoiceDial recognizes the name of the
person I want to call or a specific phone number, even if it is not in my address book. Fonix VoiceDial is
easy to use and does not require any voice training. It’s especially useful when I’m driving as I don’t need
to take my eyes off the road. Big thumbs up for this killer app!"
"One of the biggest features that drew my attention to this app was the ability to dial phone numbers by
voice, without saying each number one at a time. You can literally rattle off an entire phone number, after
prompting VoiceDial to "dial a number", and it will then ask you to confirm the number you spoke" said Dave
Wong an early reviewer of VoiceDial. "With its high accuracy, and digit dialing, I would gladly pay twice the
amount that Fonix is asking, which is $19.95. You can customize contacts with individual pronunciations if you
deem necessary. I haven't found a contact on my list yet that it won't recognize in standard form though."
Fonix VoiceDial for Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition devices is now available through the Fonix web site (www.fonix.com)
for easy installation on the: AT&T Siemens SX56 Pocket PC Phone, HP Jornada 928 WDA, O2 xda, and the T-Mobile
Pocket PC Phone Edition.
