Some weeks ago, I wrote here about a DigiTimes article which was mentioning a GPS enabled Pocket PC Phone Edition, HTC is currently working on and here we go with some further news bits from NaviGadget.
According to a posting from August 3rd, the GPS enabled Pocket PC Phone Edition is called "HTC Artemis" and indeed it's featuring GPS, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and a FM radio (which means the device could also support the TMC-service for GPS navigation), W-LAN and a 2 megapixel camera.
It's expected to run Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition and is powered by a TI OMAP CPU at 200 MHz. Interesting enough, the specs and button layout looks pretty much like the HTC Trinity, Engadget Mobile wrote about before. However, the code name is a different now as well as image:

Well, I haven't heard anything official yet but according to NaviGadget, the HTC Artemis is expected to hit the stores in third quarter while it wasn't mentioned where it should be released nor for how much it might retail.

UPDATE: Okay, now I know where the this HTC Artemis and the next HTC Trinity news came from. "BengalBoy" has recently posted the full HTC Q3/Q4 2006 roadmap including the specifications of the Artemis and Trinity.

Still that slow TI OMAP! When will they understand we don't like it and they definitively forget the idea of using it in Pocket PC designs?
GPS-enabled Pocket PCs are often plugged into the car's 12V/lighter power anyway, so this CPU's trade-in of processing power for enhanced battery life isn't even an argument...

I agree there is no use of GPS on this phone with that slow processor, i have a Hp 6325 and when i made it worked with a GPS man that was slow. I wanted to upgrade to Cingular 8125 but i am waiting coz when i head the news about Cingular 8525 comming out this fall with a samsungs 400 MHz processor
