When the Treo 700w was released by Verizon Wireless back in January, many confidently predicted that Palm's first Windows Mobile based Pocket PC would soon be available from a wide variety of carriers but so far, Palm is only offering the EVDO version through Sprint, while the UMTS-follower for Europe (the Palm Treo 750v) will be announced next month anyway.
Nevertheless, the latest version of Sprint's connection manager had a reference to a so far unknown "Palm Treo 700wx" which was the first time that there was hint of this model and now an anonymous tipster over at TreoCentral.com has posted the first photos of the Palm Treo 700wx sales box:

If the rumors turned out to become true, then the Treo 700wx will be available to Sprint's business customers from August 27 and to the general public from September 3.

I'm confused.  The story says Verizon released the Treo 700w, but the EV-DO version is only available through Sprint.  I thought Verizon's 700w had EV-DO, and Sprint's Mobile Broadband page only lists the Treo 700p, not the 700w.

Is this story actually saying that Sprint is finally going to release the Treo 700w as the 700wx?  Does the 700wx have anything new that the 700w doesn't?

That's correct. Verizon Wireless was the first carrier which announced (and later launched) the Windows Mobile Palm (Palm 700w) back in January. Now (end of this month), Sprint will follow with its own Windows Mobile Palm (Palm 700wx).
And indeed, the 700wx will has something the 700w hadn't: 64 MB or RAM instead of the original 32 MB only!
Looks like the 700wx is the better deal!
