According
an article from DigiTimes, Japanese
Softbank Mobile is likely to be the first Japanese mobile operator to launch
Windows Mobile 6-based smartphones from Toshiba and HTC, starting in the second
quarter of 2007, according to market sources.
According to the article, Softbank Mobile plans to launch the Toshiba
G900 and another not yet named smartphone from Taiwanese HTC (High Tech
Computer).
The Toshiba G900, a
Windows Mobile Professional device, which
was announced at 3GSM World
Congress last month, supports HSDPA and features a wide 800×400 touchscreen,
fingerprint recognition as well as QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth and USB host
capabilities. The G900 was developed by Toshiba's R&D term in Europe and the
company will manufacture the model in-house at its plant in Japan, according to
market sources.
HTC is also expected to supply Softbank Mobile with a new HSDPA-enabled
phone, DigiTimes sources indicated. However, it's not yet known which device it
might be.
