As
announced earlier this year
during the CeBIT, O2 Germany is ready to release its first Windows Mobile 6
smartphone next week, starting from May 1st - the O2 Xda terra aka HTC Herald. Not that the Xda terra
is - hardware-wise - anything new (since it is based on HTC'S Herald reference
design), but it's O2 Germany's first available Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC Phone
Edition (with Windows Mobile 6 known as Professional smartphone) and the first
available Windows Mobile 6 PDA in the market anyway.
Features stay unchanged to the original Windows Mobile 5 Herald and therefore
O2's version is also featuring the semi-sliding keyboard, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE
as well as WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0. Powered by a TI OMAP 850 at 200 MHz, the
terra includes 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM which can be extended with microSD
memory cards:

With a Genion L 24 months contract, the Xda terra will be available for 79.99
Euro only. Prices without a subscription weren't announced so far. It's not yet
known if O2 UK also plans to release the Xda terra but please keep in mind -
before you might order it from online shops - that the O2 Germany Xda terra is
sporting a German QWERTZ keyboard layout as well as the OS is German! O2 Germany
isn't offering English versions of its Xdas.
UPDATE: It's now orderable from O2 Germany's online shop. Prices
starts (with a 24 months contract) from 79.99 Euro. Without a contract (which
isn't orderable online), the O2 Xda terra costs 519,99 Euro.
Cheers ~ Arne
