CANCELED: HP has no plans to provide Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for its current iPAQs

Bad news reached us from HP this morning. According to an article at CNET Asia, HP - the "Grand Dame" of Pocket PCs - has no plans to provide Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for their current line of Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, namely the HP iPAQ hw6900, iPAQ rw6800, iPAQ rx4000 and rx5000 series.
The computer giant cited "the potential for long delays, as well as possible carry-over costs" to its customers as reasons for this decision. Beside not offering any upgrades for existing customers, HP will also continues to offer these devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 only.

Only HP's future devices will come with Microsoft's latest Windows Mobile version, starting with HP's first Windows Mobile Smartphone, the HP iPAQ 512 Voice Messenger which was announced during the 3GSM World Congress back in February.

Cheers ~ Arne

Man, HP became worse over the years. As good as Compaq was in the early iPaq days, HP destroyed nearly everything Compaq built-up. But ok, as a former Compaq employee I might be biased. Now I recommend HTC to all my friends and since all the former iPaqs (except one) came from HTC you better buy from the source straight ahead.

UH huh...

Perhaps you should get in contact with the people @ the following website

http://solsie.com/hp-offers-wm6-upgrade … 00-series/

maybe between the 2 of you .. you could come up with some MATCHING information.
I think its maybe best just to leave this topic alone... if hp is going to do it.. they are going to do it.  Stop pressuring them.  And for the love of god... get your stories aligned.

Sorry but I don't know what you mean? The stories are aligned more or less.
The devices CNet Asia was referring, which will not get the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade are the HP iPAQ hw6900, iPAQ rw6800, iPAQ rx4000 and rx5000 series. The device SolSie is referring, which gets the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade is the HP iPAQ 2000 series.

Where do you see the nonalignment? Also I'm not pressuring them, I'm just reporting about the different upgrade availabilities to make sure my readers buy a device today which gets Windows Mobile 6 upgrade tomorrow.

I definitely don't agree with you where you say "I think its maybe best just to leave this topic alone... if hp is going to do it.. they are going to do it."

Why should I leave the topic alone where it is a hot topic for many HP iPAQ customers which proves the dozen of E-Mails I got after.

I've just called our rep. and asked for Windows Mobile Professional updates for our iPAQ hw6940 Mobile Messenger devices because we are upgrading our Exchange to 2007 soon. He confirmed me that there is no update planned. Too bad since our iPAQs won't benefit from the new Exchange 2007 features. sad
Anyway, we are upgrading our Pocket PCs to Smartphones soon and we will either use Nokia in future or Windows Mobile 6 Smartphones. Any recommendations? And no, I will not buy HP devices anymore. Beside Nokia I have HTC and SonyEricssons on my list.
