OFFICIAL: Google announces Android Wear - Android for Wearables - Starting with Smartwatches

Remember when I told you last October that Google had plans to fork Android for wearables? Well, Google made it official now as "Google Wear" and it makes sense for Google since wearables are a hot topic for the industry and one of "the next big things" after smartphones have reached its penetration in developed market. As Google said in a blog posting, "we're only at the beginning [with mobile technology]" and that "we've barely scratched the surface of what's possible with mobile technology". That's why Google said it's so "excited about wearables" because "they understand the context of the world around you, and you can interact with them simply and efficiently, with just a glance or a spoken word".

As EyeEm, the mobile photo sharing service from Germany - which is similar to Instagram - announced this morning, it's going to launch the "EyeEm Market" later this spring. Founded back in 2009 and having over 10 million photographers from all over the world, the EyeEm team looked through hundreds of thousands of images and talked to professional image buyers. And now EyeEm believes more than ever in the huge creative potential of its community; as Florian Meissner, Co-Founder & CEO of EyeEm wrote in an E-Mail to the community. Therefore EyeEm will launch later this spring its EyeEm Market, which is said to the world's premier marketplace for real photography.

PHOTOVIEW: Omate TrueSmart (Extreme) Android 4.2.2 Smartwatch 2.0

The Omate TrueSmart is a smartwatch, which has been funded by crowd funding platform Kickstarter. It's one of the first and few smartwatches which doesn't act as a companion-watch to a smartphone only but is instead running a full version of Android 4.2.2 (AOSP) with Omate UI 2.0 on top. Being a mobile phone by itself, it also allows to make calls, as well as it is data enabled. It's powered by a MediaTek dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU at 1.0 MHz and either comes with 512 MB or 1 GB (Extreme Edition) of RAM and 4 GB or 8 GB (Extreme Edition) of flash memory which can be expanded through a microSD memory card. It supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as singleband UMTS/HSPA+ at either 1900 MHz (US) or 2100 MHz (Europe).
