UTILITY: Pebble Locker for Android keeps Smartphones Protected while not Connected
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:03 CET under 04 - Android News

While there are a couple of pretty good Bluetooth and WiFi solutions out there, which keeps your Android smartphone protected while not connected to a Bluetooth device or WiFi nearby, these solutions disable the PIN or password entry on the smartphone while connected. That's pretty handy, let's say while you are in the car - connected to your hands-free kit, or at home - connected to your W-LAN. However, a very interesting utility - really useful for Pebble smartwatch users - is Pebble Locker. And since Pebble is shipping its Pebble Steel since this week to many new Pebble users, I don't want to forget to recommend this app for your convenience. Unlike other solutions, Pebble Locker is free - if you only use it with your Pebble smartwatch but it also offers general Bluetooth and WiFi options through an in-app purchase.

KICKSTARTER: Able-HD to Kickstart the Able-HD Plus - Lightweight and Paper-thin Full HD LED Monitor
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:28 CET under 01 - General News

Last night I received a press release of an upcoming Kickstarter campaign which sounds interesting. Top 50 Kickstarter entrepreneur Nell Harton, who's earlier campaign exceeded the goal by 2000 %, is looking for further funding to make the lightweight and paper-thin Able-HD Plus monitor a truth. The Able-HD Plus monitor allows users to take the experience and enhanced productivity of a multi-monitor system with them wherever they go. The 15" or 17" 1080p Full HD display is said to weight around 2 pounds / 0.9 Kg only and is less than a third as thick as a standard HD monitor and fits easily in a backpack or briefcase. A multi-port, detachable adapter board is said to be compatible with laptops, smartphones, Xbox, Ouya, Pi, Kano and other devices, and comes complete with Audio in/out, HDMI, VGA, and DVI plugs.

SOLD: Lenovo to acquire Motorola Mobility from Google
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:47 CET under 04 - Android News

As announced yesterday evening by Google CEO Larry Page himself, Google and Lenovo signed an agreement to sell Motorola for US$ 2.91 billion. As this is an important move for Android users everywhere, Page explained in Google' own blog that Google acquired Motorola back in 2012 to help "supercharge the Android ecosystem by creating a stronger patent portfolio for Google and great smartphones for users". According to Page, Motorola has done a tremendous job reinventing the company over the past 19 months by focusing on building a smaller number of great (and great value) smartphones that consumers love. Both the Moto G and the Moto X are said to "doing really well" and Page is very excited about the smartphone lineup for 2014.

OVERRAN: Beats Music puts Registration of new Accounts on-hold
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:58 CET under 01 - General News

Following this week's launch of its streaming service, Beats Music sent out and E-Mail update last night where it explained that they "have been blown away by the love that made them the #1 Music App in the iTunes Store". However, due to the extremely high volume of interest in the Beats Music service, some users are experiencing issues; something I've also read about on Twitter. While Beats Music said that most people are unaffected, its priority is to give everyone a great experience and the company seems to have expected such an issue and has therefore been prepared. Because of the weak experience some users faced, Beats Music is now going to hold off on letting more people in while the company is working on a resolution.

FEEDBACK: Omate explains the Shipping-Delays of its Omate TrueSmart 2.0 Android Smartwach
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:01 CET under 04 - Android News

Like me, I know a couple European readers pledged the Omate TrueSmart 2.0 smartwatch after I wrote about it first time back in August and after the recent Omate announcement of further shipping delays, I received some feedback from some readers which - well let's say it this way - indicated "a frustration". Many of you have pledged for the 2100 MHz UMTS "Omate TrueSmart DEVELOPERS Edition" which was said to deliver "in October (last year) - before anyone else". However, Omate said in its latest update that it discovered some quality issues with this version (after they've upgraded each backer to the 1GB RAM / 8 GB flash memory version) which causes - also thanks to Chinese New Year - even further shipping delays.
