QUICKVIEW: Visit of the Timbuk2 Headquarter and Factory in San Francisco

It's not a secret anymore that I love bags for a long time and my most favorite bag brand today is Timbuk2; and yes, I have a personal fable for the bags from San Francisco. Somehow, a gadget user, traveler and professional has to carry all the stuff, like during this week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and Timbuk2 gave me from day one what I was looking for. A fashionable, customized looking messenger bag which is different from other bags. Somehow, or better thanks to social media, Timbuk2 recognized, that I'm one of their bigger fans on the other side of the pond and they invited me last year to visit their HQ whenever I'll be in San Francisco. Thanks to Frequencies by HTC, I was in town earlier last month and therefore I took the chance to meet with the folks from Timbuk2, namely with Noel, Timbuk2's community manager.

Sure we need another digital wallet solution and that's exactly what Samsung thought as well and therefore the Koreans introduced at today's Developer Day at the Mobile World Congress its own "Samsung Wallet". If Apple's Passbook (which also works just fine on Android) or Microsoft Wallet isn't enough for you, Samsung Wallet is said to be a convenient mobile app which allows users to store and manage event tickets, boarding passes, membership cards and coupons all in one place. By using Samsung Wallet API, partners can integrate their Associate Apps and Samsung Wallet in the way that they can add their tickets and coupons to Samsung Wallet.

|

Talking about interaction with TVs, etc. and hot on the heels of the Mobile World Congress, Nokia has finally released another missing piece of software for Windows Phone 8 - it's DLNA client for Lumia which is simply calls "Play To" again. Play To allows to share photos, videos and music from a supported Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 phone to DLNA-capable devices over WiFi. This could be one of the new and connected smart TVs, a simple Windows laptop and/or desktop or a Microsoft XBox. Since this is just the first release for Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices, it's called a public Beta but in terms of functionality, it has the same functionality as the Play To application for Windows Phone 7 based Lumia smartphones.

While Samsung's latest hero and focus device at the current Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is the company's new Note 8.0, Samsung is also showing its new HomeSync media hub solution which plays - well, as expected - quite nice with Samsung's own Galaxy smartphones. HomeSync, which runs on Android Jelly Bean, comes with a 1 TB drive that allows users to sync with multiple devices (from phones to tablets to PCs) and providing a shared and private storage space for all kind of content. It supports eight separate accounts to cover a whole family, and allows each user to upload and download content from multiple devices and instantly share with other family members.

At the current Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, ZTE joined the phablet bandwagon by introducing the ZTE Grand Memo. Running on Android 4.1, it features a 5.7", 720 x 1280 HD display and a powerful Qualcomm 800 processor with quad-core Krait CPUs and 2 GB of RAM. Combined with a 13 megapixel main camera, a 1 megapixel front-facing camera and 1080 HD video playback, it provides users a smooth, high quality multimedia experience that is perfect for gaming and video (but thanks to the size, for sure not as your average daily phone). The Grand Memo also includes a 3200 mAh battery for super-long standby time. Furthermore it comes with ZTE's custom Mifavor UI and LTE.
