SITE: Automatic browser recognition for Apple Macintosh's is fixed plus other minor fixes
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:50 CET under 06 - Site News

I still had problems to serve Apple Mac users the right site version and due to a bad configuration, Mac users were always redirected to the mobile version of the::unwired instead of getting the full featured desktop version.
However, this problem should be solved now, at least I hope so.
If you are not aware how the::unwired serves the pages, here we go with a small explanation:

One of my highest targets, since I've created the first Windows CE/Windows Mobile related web pages, was to serve both - desktop and mobile users the right page, doesn't matter how they access the::unwired (and all its forerunners). In the past, I either worked with sub-domains like or directories like to serve you the mobile version of the page you've requested. However, since the relaunch of the::unwired, I've changed the system to a style sheet based delivery mechanism so you don't have to take care about URLs, domains, etc anymore. Everything should works automatic which is even more important if other sites links to the::unwired.

QUESTION: Any interests for a Reader Meet-Up at this year's CeBIT?
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:16 CET under 06 - Site News

I'm currently planning - together with digital living Blog - what we could do at CeBIT in March and it comes to my mind to have a joint reader meet-up there.
What do you think? Will you be there (at CeBIT) and do you have time (in the later afternoon/evening) to come together, having a talk, a beer (or two), watching the latest gadgets and just having fun? What would be the best day for you?

CHEERS: Thank you for a successful year 2005 - have a good start into 2006
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:17 CET under 06 - Site News

You might have noticed my absence during the past days ;-) and you are right, I took off some days to spend the days between Christmas and New Year with my family and friends, but without my PC 8O but with my Smartphone only (for E-Mail access). ;-)
Nevertheless, before the year goes bye, I want to take the opportunity to wish you a happy new year, have a good start into 2006 - wherever you are.
For me, 2005 was a great one and I hope 2006 will continues as 2005 was. The transition from PPCW.Net to the::unwired went perfect, the readership of the::unwired nearly doubled (thanks to all of you, my dear readers) in 2005, the::unwired became part of Google's News Network, behind the scenes I'm/was working on some great ideas with partners, I was hired by CMP-WEKA as "Blogger #1" for the digital living blog which develops great as well, etc, etc. So all together, I'm more than satisfied with 2005 and I hope you had a nearly successful year as well. If not, I'm sure 2006 will become even better.

SITE: Optimized the mobile version with 'MobileOptimized'-tag
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:17 CET under 06 - Site News

The latest Internet Explorer Mobile versions for Windows Mobile Smartphone (2003 Second Edition and better) and Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5.0) does a great job in rendering and optimizing websites to get the best display results, compared to the previous Pocket Internet Explorer results, thanks to the introduction of different layout options.
However, the Internet Explorer Mobile default fit-to-screen layout can be changed. The Windows Mobile-based Smartphones And Pocket PCs have a layout menu that enables users to select the Internet Explorer Mobile layout they want.

Internet Explorer offers the following layout menu options:

MVP-SUMMIT: Back from the Microsoft MVP-Summit in Seattle
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:16 CET under 06 - Site News

Wow, what amazing 5 days I spent in Seattle and Redmond where I came from home yesterday night, after some heavy delays in Seattle, followed my a missed flight in Copenhagen and therefore some additional delays there.
Anyway, I had a great time in Seattle, Redmond and even on the airports since I had the chance to spend all the time with my fellow MVP pals from all over the world as well as Microsoft gave us the chance again, to meet the folks over there which are responsible for the devices we are using: Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones.
