Just announced, the new HTC One (M8) follows HTC's tradition of the unibody design; which features even more metal then before. With a metal share of over 90 %, the unibody metal housing goes up to the screen on the front. The European and North American HTC One is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU which works at 2.3 GHz. It's running Android 4.4.2/KitKat and HTC has introduced with the M8 a new Sense version which is called HTC Sense 6. The European One supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, quadband UMTS/HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps and quadband LTE at 800/900/1800/2600 MHz of up to 150 Mps. Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:32 CET under 08 - Reviews

The Omate TrueSmart is a smartwatch, which has been funded by crowd funding platform Kickstarter. It's one of the first and few smartwatches which doesn't act as a companion-watch to a smartphone only but is instead running a full version of Android 4.2.2 (AOSP) with Omate UI 2.0 on top. Being a mobile phone by itself, it also allows to make calls, as well as it is data enabled. It's powered by a MediaTek dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU at 1.0 MHz and either comes with 512 MB or 1 GB (Extreme Edition) of RAM and 4 GB or 8 GB (Extreme Edition) of flash memory which can be expanded through a microSD memory card. It supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as singleband UMTS/HSPA+ at either 1900 MHz (US) or 2100 MHz (Europe).

REVIEW: Fairphone FP1 Android Smartphone - The First Completely Fair Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:55 CET under 08 - Reviews

Following the earlier photoview of the Fairphone FP1, the past weeks I spent a good amount of time with this kind of exotic smartphone which is a so called "social project" by Fairphone. Being an Android smartphone first, the FP1 is aimed to be a smartphone designed and produced with minimal harm to people and environment. Following its successful crowdfunding campaign back in May last year, the first 25,000 Fairphones were shipped December. The said main motivation for developing the Fairphone was "to develop a mobile device" which "does't contain conflict minerals and has fair labor conditions for the workforce along the supply chain". Therefore is the phone body itself, as well as the battery, sporting information where the phone was assembled. This is part of the transparency Fairphone wants to provide its customers.

PHOTOVIEW: Jolla The Other Half Sailfish OS Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:06 CET under 08 - Reviews

Jolla's first smartphone, which has no real model-name at all but often called "The Other Half" or "TOH" is available in Finland since late November and at the moment it's also shipping to everyone who preordered it from Europe. Jolla, which is a kind spin-off by former Nokia employees, is a new Finland-based mobile phone company which also developed a brand new mobile OS called Sailfish OS. This Linux-based OS is built on the heritage of the proven MeeGo OS which Nokia got rid of after it moved to Windows Phone. Therefore, everything about The Other Half is new. The hardware, the mobile operating system and the eco-system which Jolla had to create for its first smartphone.
