VIDEOVIEW: Palm Treo 500 Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:25 CET under 08 - Reviews

In this videoview I will have a more detailed look to the features of Palm's Treo 500 Windows Mobile Standard smartphone.
Like Vodafone's Palm Treo 500v, the Palm Treo 500 is featuring a thumb-keyboard on the front as well as a 2 megapixel camera and loudspeaker on the back. Furthermore it features the Windows Mobile typical QVGA screen and on the left side two volume keys as well as a shortcut which launches the Internet Explorer Mobile. Under the battery, you find the place for the SIM card as well as for the memory card which means memory cards cannot removed/exchanged while the devices is turned on.

PHOTOVIEW: Palm Treo 500 Windows Mobile Smartphone

Not that the Palm Treo 500 is anything dramatically new, far from it - it's Palm's unbranded version of the Palm Treo 500v (see our previous review here) which Palm exclusively launched with Vodafone Autumn last year. Nevertheless, Palm's Treo 500 is now also available without the Vodafone branding and exclusivity and Palm Germany was kind enough to send one over to have a follow-up review, also to compare the vanilla Treo 500 with Vodafone's Treo 500v version. Most important for German customers - the unbranded Treo 500 is now available in charcoal gray while Vodafone (Germany's) Treo 500v was available in glacier white only.

REVIEW: Vodafone LG KS20 Windows Mobile Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:28 CET under 08 - Reviews

During the past 14 days I had the chance to test LG's latest Windows Mobile smartphone, the LG KS20, a Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone which is currently on sale from Vodafone.
The LG KS20 is a typical rep of a new kind of Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Editions, featuring latest state-of-the-art specs but unlike most previous Windows Mobile phones, the LG KS20 looks stylish which definitely also addresses non techies and attracting non-geeks as well as tech-savvies.
While the LG KS20 is designed for the EMEA and APAC markets only. While it's powered by a Qualcomm MSM7200 CPU, the device supports triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as singleband UMTS/HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbps only.

PHOTOVIEW: T-Mobile Shadow Home Screen User Interface [UPDATE]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:48 CET under 08 - Reviews

Courtesy of Microsoft, I've just received a couple of screenshots from T-Mobile's recently announced T-Mobile Shadow Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone. These screenshots shows T-Mobile's new Home screen interface which T-Mobile calls an "enhanced user-interface". And if you follow the photos bellow, it looks like this is the 3rd edition of a new kind of Windows Mobile Standard Home screen, we've seen first as the Samsung Carousel and after as the Vodafone TPP user interface. Like the Samsung Carousel and the Vodafone TPP, this Home screen replaces the typical Windows Mobile Standard Home screen layout by adding a kind of (in this case T-Mobile) customized layout on top:

REVIEW: Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 00:04 CET under 08 - Reviews

For two weeks, I had the pleasure to test Palm's new Treo 500v smartphone which the American PDA veteran introduce mid last month. The Treo 500v marks a quite historical milestone in Palm's long history since it is the first non-touchscreen device because it's using Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 Standard instead of the previously used Windows Mobile Professional (aka Pocket PC Phone Edition). Therefore, I was even more curious how the device performs. Another interesting fact is, that the device is, until end of 2007, on sale exclusively from Vodafone. This means, that the smartphone sports some Vodafone typical features which makes it unique once more.

VIDEOVIEW: Vodafone TPP Menu on the Palm Treo 500v
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:22 CET under 08 - Reviews

Not yet announced by Vodafone, the latest Vodafone branded devices shows a new menu structure called Vodafone TPP (whatever TPP stands for). We have seen the new TPP design earlier when Vodafone unveiled its new, not yet shown Vodafone 920 Windows Mobile smartphone but the recently announced Palm Treo 500v features the TPP menu structure as well.
So what's TPP about? As far as I know, Vodafone plans to unify its upcoming smartphone menus and the menu structure we're seeing on Widows Mobile was just the start.

MOBILE COMMUNICATION: EzWAP 2.5 Mobile Internet Client
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:13 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

EZOS, the maker of EzWAP are ready to launch its new EzWAP version 2.5 soon which will includes and supports MMS (Mobile Multimedia Messaging Service), the "follower" (?) of the successful SMS technology. Again, the first worable MMS client comes from EZOS, as years before the first real workable WAP client.

What's new within EzWAP 2.5? It's - as before - a complete WAP browser, which supports more features than the most WAP services provides today plus an integrated MMS client:
