Get your Anycom Bluetooth USB Adapter USB-2x0 working under Windows Vista
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:50 CET under Digital - Gadgets

Long time ago, I was a big fan of Anycom's Bluetooth products, basically because Anycome was one of the first companies which offered Bluetooth PC- and CF-cards which worked with Windows Mobile Pocket PCs (it was the time, when Compaq's iPAQ line was the state of the art device and thanks to the jackets, you were able to use even PCMCIA and CF-cards with Pocket PCs). Well, recently I bought a new Bluetooth USB stick for my Windows Media Center (I've upgraded from the Acer stick since Acer failed to provide drivers) and as it turned out, the Anycom USB Adapter USB-200 was even Bluetooth 2.0 already (bout it early last year).

So indeed - another great product I wasn't unhappy with but well - Anycom likes to use their own Bluetooth stack (I think it's based on the Broadcom stack) but I prefer the Microsoft stack, even if it offers less, it's better working with ActiveSync and/or the Windows Mobile Device Center.

Getting rid of a "pre-defined" Bluetooth stack causes always trouble, but not so with the Anycom  USB-2x0 USB Adapter. The fine folks from Anycom released a driver called "anycom-bluetooth-usb2x0-windowsxp-v2-1-0-4.exe" which allows you to use the Anycom Blue USB-200/220/250 USB Adapter with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack on Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP x86-64 bit edition. So far so good but I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on my Media Center now but I decided to give it a try anyway and voila - it works even with Windows Vista. However, you have to know how to make it working:

Anyone of you is using WebGuide4 for Windows Media Center as well? If so, check out the new Vista Sidebar Gadget for WebGuide4. It's pretty impressive what Doug is developing for the Media Center, to make a great idea (the Microsoft Media Center Edition) working even better (using WebGuide4).

Microsoft recognizes Most Valuable Professionals (MVP) at 2007 MVP Global Summit
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:07 CET under Job - Editor and Journalist

In the wake of the largest product launch in the company's history, that of the Windows Vista operating system, the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Exchange Server 2007, Microsoft Corp. will host the 2007 MVP Global Summit. The annual event recognizes the value that Microsoft-designated Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs) around the world provide in helping to make the company's products successful, while honoring their contributions to the objective exchange of knowledge and their dedication to enriching the technology user experience.

MVPs are individuals (like me ;-)) recognized by Microsoft as outstanding leaders in the technical community who make an exceptional impact on the IT industry by actively and voluntarily sharing their expertise in technical communities worldwide. Recent examples of the MVP influence on Microsoft's products and technology users include the following:

Enhanced Picture View Functionality for the::unwired and the::placeshift [UPDATE]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:36 CET under Off Topic

Some of you might have seen the latest site enhancement already - the time is gone where a new window opens, if you click on a photo to get a higher resolution. This was something, I never was a big friend of but I never found a better (and easy to implement) way to change this. However, now - with the helping hand of fishumik (thanks man) - I finally got a new code in place which replaces the old "open the photo in a new window" code but now it's opened in the current window and - it looks a kind of "Web 2.0" - don't you think so as well? ;-) (left before - right after - just click to enlarge):

This solution was tested with Windows Vista, IE7, Firefox 1.0/2.0 and Opera 9 as well as with Windows XP and IE6. If you use a different operating system and/or browser, could you be so kind to test it with your system as well (please use this link as the reference) and let me know in this thread, if it is working or not and which OS and browser you are using? I want to make sure you all get the same nice result. Thanks a lot!

Kung hei fat choi 恭喜发财 or 恭喜發財
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:15 CET under Off Topic

I wish all Chinese readers of the::unwired a happy and prosperous Chinese new year. Sorry for being a little bit late but I was off over the weekend to recover from last week's 3GSM World Congress and because of  some personal stuff.
Anyway - hope you had a good move into the year of the "Golden Pig" and since I was born in the year of the "Pig" as well (maybe a reason why I have such a lucky live so far) I know what it means to you, especially because I still have many Chinese friends since I've lived as a "Gwailo" in Hong Kong some years ago (which might be the reason why I'm still say "Kung hei fat choi" since it's Hakka, not Mandarin).

Finally - Fujitsu released the final Windows Vista drivers for the Lifebook T4210
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:20 CET under Digital - Gadgets

Okay, during the past weeks I was ranting here quite heavily about the missing Windows Vista drivers for my Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook T4210 and therefore I should also tell you, that the missing drivers are available now (or better since late last week).
So if you also own a T4210 (or a T4215) and you was waiting for the drivers to upgrade your Tablet to Windows Vista, you don't have any excuses anymore. ;-)

Please note, that downloading the drivers is a real pain, since Fujitsu (Siemens) offers every driver as a single download, instead of packing them together into one ZIP file. Therefore, the download, as well as extracting all the drivers can take some hours but hey - at least the drivers are available.
