According to a now pulled article at CNet, LG said today that it was (or is?) acquiring webOS from Hewlett-Packard. However, unlike you might expect, the Korean electronic giant has no intentions to use it for mobile phones but instead it was said that LG will use it for its range of smart TVs. According to CNet, LG obtains the source code for webOS, related documentation, engineering talent and even related webOS Web sites. LG also gets HP licenses for use with its webOS products, and patents HP obtained from Palm. Skott Ahn, President and CTO of LG Electronics is quoted with a statement that "It (webOS) creates a new path for LG to offer an intuitive user experience and Internet services across a range of consumer electronics devices".
