i'm simone from the university of milan.
i need some suggestion, please! i am involved in a project to bring internet on ultralight airplanes, that fly at low-quotes.
i would like to test some GSM/GPRS card but i don't know what to choose.
A student of my team has already tested the Vodafone card, but the results weren't really satisfactory:
1. Even if the UMTS network was present, he wasn't able to get a link during flight. i believe it's a problem of slots assigned by the italian umts operator, but i don't pretend to be right.! 
2. With the GPRS network we get a link at a quote of 150 m at 130 Km/h. The data flow was about the 30% of what obtained at the ground.
Actually we would like to test some other GSM/GPRS card (i think that UMTS it's too early in Italy): Sierra Wireless 750 for example, but i hope you could give me some other suggestion.
Do you think that maybe with an external antenna the results could be better?
