As expected, Google unveiled today plans about it's so called "Gphone" a rumored open source mobile phone but unlike expected, it's not a Google phone only, Google managed to create a whole industry alliance around the Gphone. A broad alliance of leading technology and wireless companies joined forces to announce the development of Android, the first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices. Google Inc., T-Mobile, HTC, Qualcomm, Motorola and others have collaborated on the development of Android through the Open Handset Alliance, a multinational alliance of technology and mobile industry leaders!

There will be no GPhone. It's a operating system only.
Devices will come from many manufactors.

Doesn't matter if Google builds the phone or partners, it's the Gphone. And as much I was a Google fan and user in the past, they scare me now. What's the hidden agenda? Taking over the world? Not sure if I will continue to use their services or not but most likely not. Back to Yahoo and MSN.
