I met with Dangaard, I had the opportunity to met Morten Lund, CEO and founder
of Bullguard and
co-founder of Skype and
Morton was kind enough to show me their latest developments: Bullguard Mobile
for "smart devices" including support for Windows Mobile based Pocket PCs and
Smartphones as well as Symbian based UIQ and Series 60 devices.
The risk of
getting a virus on such a device might be underestimated today but nevertheless,
there is a real threat today already (as you can see in
Carlo's previous article and the ongoing comments). And while a virus is bad
enough already, a dialer (for IDD calls or premium SMS) is even worse but how
can we be sure it's not happening on our devices? Windows Mobile as well as
Symbian devices are smart, so smart that you can install new applications on it.
While 99.5 % of the developers provide great and useful applications, a couple
of them will provide viruses and dialer in the future which can - in worst case
- costs us a lot of money.
Here Bullguard is stepping into the game with their
latest development - basically a virus scanner as you know it from your PC - to
help you to protect your device and keep your monthly bill low (as low as you
I will follow with deeper information after the 3GSM congress but
what I've seen was pretty amazing. While a virus scanner for my smart devices
wasn't on my task so far I think I will change my mind soon. Especially with all
the possible Bluetooth threats and attacks. While many other virus scanners for
mobile devices acts passive, Bullguard for smart devices works more active, like
your virus protection on your PC and to be honest: would you run an Internet
connected PC without a firewall and virus scanner today? I wouldn't so why does
we use our connected devices without any security? :?
