ACCESSORY: Is HTC TV coming to the HTC One mini with the help of the HTC Mini+ Remote Control?

Back in January, HTC launched the HTC Mini for its HTC Butterfly Android Smartphone. Never launched internationally, the HTC Mini is/was an in Asia-only available remote control gadget which connected to the Butterfly through NFC and Bluetooth. It allowed to make calls without actually having to take the smartphone out of the pocket and other features allowed to show received messages, calendar entries and call logs. Last but not least, the HTC Mini was also able to navigate through menus when the smartphone was plugged into a HDTV. Now, a software update appeared on a HTC One mini, which indicates that a "HTC Mini+" could be soon available for the HTC One mini, making it a remote control for TVs.

While the HTC One, the bigger and more powerful sibling of the HTC One mini, sports an infrared transmitter, which allows to use the the device as a remote control for TVs and set-top boxes, this infrared transmitter was left-out for the One mini. However, the recently appeared software update says that it allows to "connect your phone (in this case the HTC One mini) and HTC Mini+ via Bluetooth to download & enjoy Sense TV service" (which includes HTC's EPG and HTC Remote as introduced first time with the HTC One).

The software update appeared only once and I wasn't able to download or install it but it seems HTC has something in the labs to make the One mini (phone) even more smarter with the help of the Mini+ (remote control). Another recent software update for Windows PCs also shows that the HTC Mini isn't dead at all; HTC has just released a Windows tool which allows to use a HTC Mini(+) as a PowerPoint remote control.

Cheers ~ Arne
