APPROVAL: GCF approves the Samsung GT-I8700 Windows Phone 7

It definitely looks like Microsoft and its partners are somewhat ready to launch Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 - anytime soon. After the Global Certification Forum approved LG's first Windows Phone 7 as well as it confirmed the HTC 7 Trophy and the HTC 7 Mozart, today the GCF approved the Samsung GT-I8700 which is expected to be Samsung's first Windows Phone 7. According to the GCF, the GT-I8700 supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/1900/2100 MHz which would make it the first GCF approved Windows Phone 7 which is also ready to be used in North America - thanks to its AT&T Wireless' 1900 MHz UMTS support.

As always, the Global Certification Forum isn't spilling any beans about further specs or device availability but since so many expected Windows Phone 7 smartphones were approved the recent days and weeks, it definitely seems to be confirmed that Microsoft will announce Windows Phone 7 on October 11th with the expected European availability on October 21st.

Cheers ~ Arne
