Earlier March, the Global Certification Forum (GCF) has approved the Huawei Ideos X3/U8510 Android 2.3 smartphone which Huawei confirmed shortly after with a video. While the first X3 only featured triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 900/1800/1900 MHz but also UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 2100 MHz, the now approved X3 supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900 MHz as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA at 900/2100 MHz but lacks HSUPA now. That's an interesting change since it would allow a more global launch of the X3 but the lack of HSUPA might makes it less interesting for power users (think of Facebook video uploads or picture sharing).
The recent frequency changes put the X3 closer to the Ideos X1 which also lacks HSUPA so it's yet uncertain which of both Ideos smartphones make it to the different markets since both seem to be pretty much the same. However, unlike the Ideos X3, the Ideos X1 has yet to be confirmed by Huawei.
